What is Keratotomy?
This surgical procedure involves in cutting and reshaping the cornea to improve vision. People with astigmatism have a football-shaped cornea which creates difficulty in vision. The specialist makes incisions at the steepest area of the cornea allowing it to relax and assume the normal round shape. This reduces astigmatism and related vision problems. Those with mild astigmatism may not need corrective glasses after the surgery but those with severe astigmatism may need low-powered corrective glasses.
